“Mel i Mató” is a traditional Catalan dessert based on “Mató” cheese with honey and nuts. It’s a plain dessert but delicious instead.
It has its origin in the Middle Ages and is a humble origin because was elaborated with the ingredients that the people had in their homes like milk, but the recipe goes through generations and arrives at our days. In the Middle Ages was typically made it with orange flower water.
The “Mató” cheese is traditional from Catalonian and is a fresh cheese; its origin is with sheep or goat milk but currently, is made with cow or mixture milk. The cheese is a curdled milk that has a delicate sweet flavour due to the concentration of lactose.
In “Art i Sa Barcelona” you can eat this delicious dessert that we make with a homemade cow “Mató” cheese and a rosemary honey from “Can Mallofré”.
We hope you will make a try and see you soon!!!
